Brixham Boats

Blue skies and pretty boats in Brixham harbour last Saturday morning when hubby and I went for an early morning walk.

Comic murals on a wall by the inner harbour

Herring gulls looking for a suitable place to rest - a very nice boat they have chosen too!

......not so for the pigeons, who obviously aren't as fussy

The pigeons in Brixham enjoying these abandoned boats

A genuine pigeon hole

Another project underway-my office

The result of a trip to the new garden centre, I just couldn't resist!

...all these plants too, which cost just £5 from the bargain corner.

The pretty trellis was also bought there, I really shouldn't go with the credit card!

Very cute cat, once again snoozing in the garden

Hubby goes back to work next week. It's quite amazing to think how well he has recovered. We have really enjoyed our last week before his return. With walks and lunches taken on the beach in the beautiful weather, what more could we ask for?

It really does feel like spring is here and summer is on the way. You are all posting such lovely images of flowers, birds and moths, it's a great reminder of how much we all seem to love this season.

Until next time, take care all

  1. Lovely colourful harbour scenes SS, it makes me want to visit the sea-side myself and have a stroll around enjoying all the sights, sounds and smells of the sea. I am also glad that life is getting back to normality for you and your husband, the cat certainly looks pretty relaxed with life at the moment that's for sure :-)

Kindest regards and best wishes to all :-)

PS. I like the pigeon hole!

    1. Thank you David, it is so lovely being by the sea, the sound of herring gulls at the moment is something you either love or hate! I love it, but even I had to go out into the garden this morning to tell them off...what a hullabaloo....a stand off over rooftop ownership!

  2. Hello from a new reader across the Bay! I happened upon your blog via Down by the Sea blog, and I'm glad I have, for I love your photos of Brixham and other places in and around the Bay. I don't know the story of your husband's illness, nor the move from somewhere else to where you are now, but I daresay in time I'll have time to read previous postings. I love your photos of Brixham harbour - what a delightful place Brixham is (both Cow town and Fish town!) Love the pix of the grey big grey furry cat!

    1. Hello Margaret, thank you for stopping by and leaving a comment. Yes he's a big fluffy ball of fun, this is the perfect temperature for him right now. Hubby is back at work this week, 6 weeks off after major surgery, his recovery has been wonderful, maybe something to do with the seaside?

  3. I am so pleased that your husband is able to return to work already, that really is amazing isn't it, he must be so pleased too!! That is so funny about the pigeons, it is just typical of them isn't it, they will hang out in any old place! xx

    1. Many thanks Amy, I think he'd have loved more time off and he could have had it too as after that surgery the GP would have signed him off for longer, but he looks great and feels great and felt it would be ok to return. He's done 3 shorter days this week, to ease back into it, which is very sensible.
I loved it when I saw the pigeons too...made me smile...I knew it would work for a blog post.

    1. Hi Em, Otter nurseries just off the main link road in Paignton (near the Go-Karts). Bargain corner will definitely be checked out by me again! I think hubby was just very lucky, he was very fit before the surgery, had a lovely home to relax in with gentle walks and me looking after his medication and diet (I'm very strict).

  6. Oh, decorating disruption, the stuff of nightmares. I bet those plants cheered you up though! Best of luck for hubby for next week. All the fine weather and walks must have helped his recovery enormously.

    1. Yes they did Jessica, I just had to get out of the house for a break. Plasterer is booked in for beginning of June to patch up all the walls...so I'd better keep calm and carry on scraping (is there a mug for that?). I'm sure it did help him recover.

    1. Thank you Rosie, the seagulls are mating and squawking a lot right now, I should record that and put it on the blog, it sort of shatters the lovely image you have just created!

  8. Delighted that your husband has recovered so well from his surgery - I expect all those blue skies, boats bobbing on the sea, walks and lunches on the beach have helped him to get better.

  10. This is a great series of photos. I like your planter next to your door, projects in the works I see, loved all the boats in the harbor, cute kitty, the pigeon in the wall, so much to enjoy. I am going to be going down to the nursery soon for flowers, but it turned real chilly again. We even had sleety rain yesterday and it turned into hail but it didn't last too long. At first I thought I saw snow falling on the front window of the car as I was driving along. Warmer temperatures on the way, I hope :)

    1. Thanks Denise, the weather has changed since that post and we too have had cold weather, with snow up in Scotland. I have one tomato plant outside, but I think we are safe from frosts here now.

  11. Yes - NEVER take your credit card to the Garden Centre! A good selection of plants for your new garden and they will bring you much pleasure, I am certain.

I had to laugh at the Gulls on the Smart Boat and the Pigeons, obviously slumming it! Oh dear, that did make me grin! I could just hear the jingle of the rigging in the harbour too. I have a sudden urge to go to the seaside again.

    1. Many thanks, I'm sure people must wonder what I'm doing photographing pigeons on scruffy old boats, but I saw the match of two opposites and it made me laugh too.

  14. So pleased to hear that your husband has recovered so well and so quickly. Beautiful photos of Brixham and the boats. Really laughed out loud at the herring gull boat and pigeons on a different type of boat pictures :) Easy to spend lots in a garden centre!

    1. I must not get carried away....as I'm not quite ready for mass planting! The wonderful world of birds...aren't they great to observe, no matter what they are doing? Thank you for your kind thoughts for my husband, he's finished for the week now and looking forward to a rest.

  15. Lovely seeing the boats in Brixham on a summy Saturday morning we had thick fog here and it was freezing! That was a great bargain with those plants! So good to hear your husband is well enough to return to walk, hope he will take this slowly to start with! The cat looks so settled in your garden, a superb picture! Sarah x

  16. Harbours with boats in always make for good scenic images Suzie.
The first two shots are a bit like Weymouth.
