Holidays at Home

I must say a huge thank you to Denise, her husband Greg and her family for a lovely evening spent with them during their European holiday this summer.
We went to a very pretty country pub in Marldon Village called The Church House Inn
We had a marvellous meal and a chat and it was such a treat to meet up. You can read all about their holiday adventures over at An English Girl Rambles.

I hope I can treat you on your next visit to Devon.

The decorating starts as the holiday begins

A cat sleeps in the sunshine

The temperatures have varied

The tomatoes have still to ripen

Mr & Mrs Blackbird are still together but it's very hard to get a photo of them. She looks much better today, her foot and her ability to stand have improved. Maybe it's all the care and attention from Mr Blackbird or perhaps the RSPB fat balls I put out in the garden which they are eating very quickly.

Having a rest today from the decorating and I'll write about our new dog in the next post.
Wishing you a happy and sunny week ahead
Until next time

  1. Bet those beach huts aren't cheap!

    1. Hi Simon, these little traditional huts are not too bad. We are on a waiting list for one, but it'll be a couple of years before one becomes free. Costs are £500 for the actual hut, or you can have your own so long as it's made to particular specifications, then £240 for the site hire each year and £165 winter storage.

  2. Glad you are still managing to enjoy what has been a relatively fine and warm summer (your thermometer shows an impressive maximum!) despite all the painting and decorating. Certainly the cat looks like he/she is enjoying the sunshine :-)

Kindest regards and best wishes to all :-)

    1. Thank you David, I've noticed the swifts have gone however we still have the swallows and house martins flying over Broadsands. I'm hoping the house martins will take up residence on my house next year, as there are quite a few nests along the road.
We're having a day on and a day off for the holidays so that we get a rest from painting and the smell of paint. So far the pets have not managed to get paint on themselves and are enjoying the summer.

    1. Many thanks, saw Mrs Blackbird again today and she looks fine and strong, I've added mealworms and buggy nibbles to her diet, I throw them under the hedge and can here her rustling about. I'm hoping this will give her new strength after raising two broods.

  6. You and your husband have been so busy this year Suzie but it will be great when the jobs are finished. Hopefully next year will be a much more relaxing time for you both.

  7. Love your moggy! And glad to see the decorating coming along a treat, and the tomatoes growing ... ours were useless, but then, we haven't taken care of our garden during what passes for a summer ... away three times in July and doing decorating, something had to give and it was the garden ...

    1. The toms grow really well in the courtyard area as it's sheltered and warm. It was really a trial to see if they would grow so that I can plan for next year when I wont be spending any time decorating!

    1. That would be lovely Sarah, we are really not too far from each other, perhaps when the tourists have gone? We've had a lovely day today and went next door to meet their new puppy...oh so cute, but sharp little teeth and nails...such a bundle of energy!

Thanks for taking the time to leave me a comment. I read them all. At the moment I'm struggling for time making it difficult to reply individually to each comment, but I'll do my best.
