A Nice Day Out

Today is my birthday, flowers of course, from a magnolia tree

and a lovely present from hubby.

We went to Paignton Zoo

The big cats were out in the sunshine

The Red Panda, she is curled up high in this tree and wasn't coming down to say hello

The parkland at Paignton Zoo is very natural

The Pelicans are always so easy to photograph

Griffin enjoying Winterwatch and mouse-maze

The source of all our troubles for the past week.

We were back at the vets this morning with Percy who has been very unwell and went downhill last night quite suddenly. We both didn't sleep very well and I was up very early to check on him. Hopefully he'll pick up now and is looking better after some injections. He starts a course of antibiotics tomorrow.

One of the reasons I'm a bit behind with blogging, that and the fact that I'm doing extra hours at work for the next couple of months. Thank you for all you lovely comments on my last post. I'll be replying soon and catching up with your posts in the next few days.

No pilates for me tonight, getting a Chinese meal and putting our feet up with a glass of wine.

Hope you are all well
Until next time

Hope poor Percy continues to improve it has always been a struggle getting our cats to have their antibiotics. Sarah x

    1. Thanks Sarah, Percy is much better and happily taking his tablets. The weather was lovely for a change and we had a very nice day, although I felt over-full after the meal and wine!

    1. The sun shone Mel, having a birthday in February is not great as the weather is usually so cold, but on Thursday it was lovely.

  4. Never went to Paignton Zoo, despite living in Exeter for years. Your magnolias down south are very early. Ours are still budding here, another few weeks to go.

    1. Yes the magnolias are early, these ones were at the zoo, so it was probably sheltered, but there is one just about to burst into bloom in a garden down the road.

  5. Happy Birthday Suzie! I'm sorry to hear about Percy, I hope he recovers quickly now he's seen the vet.
I'm glad that the rest of your day was good after the anxious start. Your lovely photos give the impression you were very close to that tiger! Enjoy your wine and meal.

    1. Thank you Wendy, Percy is picking up, some sort of inflammation in three organs-liver, pancras and intestines, so it's very painful. He's enjoying fresh cooked fish and chicken for the next few days. The zoom on the bridge camera is excellent-provided you can hold it still. The tiger was having a drink, so was very stll, it was just luck!

    1. Thank you Amy, Percy seems much better today. That might be a special magnolia as it was in the zoo-didn't get the name of it though, so will look next time.

  7. Happy Birthday. Good to see that you always do something nice to celebrate the day (I am a firm believer in this and have even been known to hijack my husband's birthday and choose where we will go. Well, suggest somewhere at least!!) The zoo looks a lovely place to visit.

  8. Happy birthday for yesterday (Thursday) My son is thirty today (Friday)
Looks like you had a lovely day out. I haven't been to Paignton Zoo for years, I think we last went before our son who is thirty was even thought of!

    1. Thanks Julie, they are doing lots of work in the zoo at the moment-before the summer season I suppose. The gardens are very well looked after and they have replanted new beds and shrubs.

    1. Many thanks Sarah, Percy has been off his food and just not quite right for a few days, then was very sick last weekend as well, but the vet seems to have found the cause this week and he's much better.

  11. Many birthday wishes Suzie, I hope you had a most wonderful day :-)

Fantastic to see the big cats at the zoo, especially the stunning Tiger, whilst the Red Panda reminds me of the one they used to have at Edinburgh when I was a child, as more than often than not that was curled up asleep at the top of the tree.

Sorry to read about Percy's health problems, fingers crossed that the antibiotics do their magic :-)

    Kindest regards to all :-)

PS. Hope you enjoy the book, it certainly looks like an interesting read.

    1. Thank you David. I saw the lady win her award on Countryfile and she just looked like such an interesting character.
Percy is doing much better now, so I'm hoping when the abtibiotics are finished he'll be ok.
The tiger was easy to photograph this time as it was having a drink and so I could get a proper focus with the zoom lens. The Red Panda was hard to see and quite amazing to see such a big animal curled up asleep in the tree.
Anyway we had a lovely day, helped by knowing Percy was getting the right treatment, and a nice relaxing evening.

  12. Happy belated birthday Suzie, Paignton zoo looks lovely, I haven't been there for ages. I love the photo of the pelican!
Percy's so beautiful with his dark tail and white head and body. I do hope he's better now, it must have been such a worry. Have a lovely weekend!

    1. Hello Jess, Percy is very unusual in his coulouring isn't he! He always comes back from the vets smelling of perfume as he's very cuddly.
The pelicans are wonderful to watch, I managed to get some great images a while ago of them feeding and preening and had a chat with the keeper-who really loves them.
